Talk to your phone, let Google do the typing

When you are out and about and need to record a quick thought, reminder, or note, typing on a phone screen in the sun can be frustrating or sometimes you just don't have the time to type it out! Use Google Keep's Audio Recording feature to speak and let Google type for you. It instantly transcribes your voice and syncs to your desktop UMN Google Workspace.

Steps to transcribe your note

  1. Open the Google Keep app on your mobile device (sign in with your umn.edu account)
  2. Tap the Microphone icon in the bottom toolbar and speak your note
  3. Tap the Stop button when finished
Google Keep automatically saves the audio file and pastes the typed text transcript into the note. When you are back at your computer, just open Google Keep in your browser to copy and paste the text into Gmail, Microsoft Word, or a calendar invite!
