Did you know that March 21 is Digital Clean-up Day? It's a global movement to delete "digital waste." By clearing out old drafts, large attachments and outdated links, you don't just stay organized, you actually reduce the energy needed to power the servers that store our data!
In honor of the day, we're challenging you to a 21-Minute Digital Refresh.
Ready to clear the clutter? See how many of these quick tips you can tackle in your 21-minute refresh:
- Lose the big attachments: Search your Gmail for has:attachment larger:10M. Deleting just a few massive files clears more space than deleting 1,000 text emails!
- Check on your Z-Links: Review your z.umn.edu links and remove any that point to past events or outdated resources. It's also a great time to ensure important z-links are shared with your team, and documents are reviewed for accessibility!
- Do a Downloads deep-dive: Your computer's Downloads folder is often the biggest collector of unneeded files. Tip: Sort by "date modified" in File Explorer. If you haven't opened that PDF whitepaper since 2024, it's probably time to move it to a permanent folder or delete it.
- Search for Untitled, Copy of, DRAFT and FINAL: Search Google Drive for the words "Untitled", "Copy of", "DRAFT" or "FINAL" to find duplicates, empty documents or outdated versions.
