Watch for unwanted AI bots in Zoom

AI bots like Read.ai or Fireflies.ai sometimes enter Zoom meetings, recording or collecting data without consent. In a recent scam, some people and bots registered and entered webinars, recording them and placing them on MeetingTV.us. This has happened to a few people in Extension and they have had to request for them to be removed from the site. Meeting transcripts collected by AI bots may also be used to generate and distribute podcasts and videos of your meeting.

Not everyone realizes they have given access to an AI bot. If you notice an AI bot listed as a participant, such as Fireflies.ai, Read.ai, or Otter.ai, it should be removed. At the University of Minnesota, unapproved AI bots are prohibited. Instead, enable Zoom’s AI Companion, which offers built-in, secure options for transcription and meeting summaries.

Learn how to spot and remove unwanted AI bots from your Zoom Meetings.

Tip: Check your registration and participant lists regularly. Keeping bots out helps keep your meetings private and compliant.
