Chrome's new Split View is super handy

Chrome just rolled out a new Split View feature - for me it showed up last week. Split View is a way to multitask in a single tab.

Instead of having to open a new browser window to view windows side-by-side, with Split View, you can quickly have two web pages or apps open in the same tab. This is great if you want to keep your email visible while working in a document, compare documents side-by-side, or reference a webpage or document while writing in another.

How to create a Split View

Right-click on a tab header and choose New split view with current tab from the menu.

After you create a new split view, Chrome will list your open tabs that you can choose to add to the split view.

Split View features:

  • You can resize the split panes by dragging the middle bar to the left or right.
  • Replace one tab with a different tab. Just right-click on an open single tab, select Move tab into split view and choose to Swap with the left or right view
Move tab into split view > right or left tab
  • When you are in a split view tab, there is a new icon that appears next to the URL bar at the top that allows you to do the following:
    • Separate the split tabs back into their own individual tabs
    • Close left/right view
    • Reverse views - swap the left and right tabs
