Add travel time (and directions!) to your Google calendar

When you are traveling to/from a work event, you should always add travel time as separate entries from the actual event in your calendar. Did you know that you can add your travel time using Google Maps right in your calendar? What’s great about this feature is that Google will calculate the exact time to leave to reach your destination on time. Plus, you can do it all in one step as you create your event.

How to add travel time to Google Calendar

  1. In your calendar, click to create your event
  2. Enter the title and click location
  3. Enter an address or search by the venue name. Select the location from the Google suggestions.
  4. Click the Google Maps icon to the right of the location box. The Quick Access Side Panel will open with the Google Maps app.

  5. Click Directions in the Google Maps app

  6. Enter the address of your starting location
  7. Click Add to Calendar

  8. To add your return travel time, click the arrows to the right of the address to reverse directions

  9. Click Add to Calendar. It may take a moment to add another event block on your calendar for your return trip.
  10. Drag the reverse travel time to below your event in your calendar
