Using Tabs in Windows File Explorer

I recently upgraded my laptop which had me moving files around between Drives and folders in Windows File Explorer. I discovered tabs which allows you to move between folders without having multiple File Explorer windows open side by side. It's also much easier than using "copy" or "cut" to move files from one folder to another.

Tabs within File Explorer are just like tabs within a browser. To open a new tab, click the small + button next to the tab at the top.

Tips:

  • To close a tab, just click the small x in the upper-right corner of the tab - just like a browser tab.
  • To rearrange tabs, drag them to the position you want.
  • You cannot drag them out of the current window to create another separate File Explorer window.
