Play music in your Zoom meetings

Monday Minute Header
The University has recently added a music app that can be used in Zoom meetings and webinars. Zoom Apps have been around for awhile and you may have noticed an Apps icon on your toolbar when you are hosting. The apps we have available with our UMN Zoom accounts include a meeting timer, virtual backgrounds and now music!

Using the Music App in a meeting or webinar

  1. Start a Zoom meeting
  2. Click the Apps icon on the toolbar
  3. Under My Apps you should see the Music app
  4. Click Music and select a genre, a song and click play. A prompt will appear to share all computer audio. Click Allow
How to play music in Zoom

You can adjust the volume in the app (participants may adjust their own computer volume also), pause the music, fade the music in/out and favorite songs to create your own collection.

Prevent participants from sharing music:
  1. Click the Host tools icon on the toolbar
  2. Deselect Collaborate with Zoom Apps

  1. This is great! Thank you!
I have a library of stock audio I downloaded from Audioblocks a while back and would play that before webinars so people would be able to check audio settings before we went live. Awesome to have a more built in option than playing from a folder on my desktop. ;)

  2. Thank you for sharing this music App feature. When I go into my "Apps" button all I see is "Who can start a collaboration?" and "Who can start a collaboration when someone else alrady started a collaboration?". There is no "My apps" or "music" button.

I wondered if I needed to change something in my "Settings" -- there is a "Zoom Apps" tab -- with two options - "Zoom Apps Quick Launch Button" and "Enable Developer Mode on mobile clients" -- both of which have been "locked by admin"

What am I missing? I am interested in using the music option. Thanks!

    1. There is nothing under settings that you need to enable. The Desktop App is required - are you logged into the Desktop App on your computer? If your account is part of the HCC (Health Care Component), you may not have access to Apps. If it is neither of these things, my suggestion is to connect with the UMN Helpdesk https://it.umn.edu/how-get-technology-help.

  4. This is a great feature. I changed my settings and can hear the music when I'm in a zoom meeting, however I tested it with another person and they could not hear the music playing. I shared the feature with all participants and that did not make a difference. Still no sound. What do I need to do to fix this? Thank you!

    1. Did you get a prompt to "allow" your audio to play in the meeting. Also, there is a volume slider that might be set too low for anyone to hear.
