The Master Naturalist program wanted help making their evaluation survey data easier to compare and share, so earlier this year they reached out to the Digital Learning and Data (DLD) Regional Support Staff (RSS) group. The Extension Learning Technologies team supports the DLD RSS group and I jumped at the opportunity to help implement some things we’d learned from earlier efficient eval work!
Instead of their standard individual Qualtrics course evaluation survey for each course offering, and paper-based pre- and post-testing, we moved everything to one Qualtrics survey. With appended urls and survey flow, we were able to keep the data together without asking students across Biome courses and locations to even identify those elements.
We even used custom reports and filters to allow instructors access to live-updating data on their own courses.
Even better, the program team now has access to a trove of data to help them make data-informed iterations to their work and coach volunteers along the way.
Thank you to Lauren S. and Julie L. for your work on this project, and to the Master Naturalist team for trusting us in making this a bit bigger project on the front-end than they expected in order to save time in the long-run!
