Some people are more comfortable around technology than others, but there are basic skills that everyone should have. So what does every Extension person need to know about technology? We have maintained a core skills checklist for a few years and just recently updated and reformatted the content into an Extension Core Technology Skills self-directed learning website.
This website introduces you to what we consider the core technology skills, or minimum skills required for excellent performance for all Extension personnel. The skills relate to use of computers, technology literacy, attitude and awareness. Each core skill includes a learning resource link and additional “bonus” resources to learn even more.
Suggestions for using this course
As a self-review checklist: Review and check off what you already know and identify any knowledge gaps to include in your yearly goals.
As a new Extension employee: Use this course to better understand the tools you will use every day that are supported by the University and Extension and identify areas where you may want to focus your initial tech training.
As a supervisor: Remind employees to review these skills on their own or review it together to identify areas where additional training is necessary.
Start anytime and go at your own pace. We always appreciate feedback so be sure to let us know your thoughts and take the Technology pledge in the last section of the course.
